Davidoff

Ramón ValdésRamón ValdésEditor-in-Chief

The visual identity of Davidoff cigars has evolved throughout the brand's storied history, with its decorative bands serving as both authentication markers and symbols of luxury craftsmanship. Collectors and enthusiasts have long studied these bands as a way to date vintage cigars and verify authenticity.

Standard Band A (1969–1991)

The first standard band used by Davidoff, known as Band A, was produced from 1969 until 1991. This distinguished band featured an embossed design, giving it a textured, three-dimensional quality that reflected the premium positioning of Davidoff cigars in the marketplace. The embossing technique added both visual appeal and a tactile element that collectors came to recognize as a hallmark of the era.

Band A has since been discontinued, making cigars bearing this band particularly sought after by collectors of vintage Cuban and Davidoff cigars.

Standard Band B (1969–1991)

Concurrently produced during the same period, Standard Band B offered a slightly different aesthetic approach. While sharing the same production timeline from 1969 through 1991, Band B was distinguished by its non-embossed finish. This smoother presentation provided an alternative visual style while maintaining the brand's characteristic elegance.

Like Band A, Standard Band B has been discontinued, representing an important chapter in Davidoff's packaging heritage.

Collecting Significance

For cigar historians and collectors, these two standard bands represent the formative decades of Davidoff's cigar production. The distinction between embossed and non-embossed variants provides valuable information for authentication and dating purposes. Cigars featuring either of these discontinued bands are considered rare finds in today's market, offering a tangible connection to Davidoff's early legacy.
