Bolívar Band Evolution and Varieties
The Bolívar brand has employed several distinct band designs throughout its storied history, each marking different eras of production. Collectors and enthusiasts often use these bands as reference points for dating and authenticating cigars from this prestigious Cuban marque.
Standard Production Bands

Standard Band A
The original Bolívar band design remained in production from the pre-1960s era until approximately 2002. This classic band featured the Bolívar name rendered in elegant serif script typography. The band carried embossed detailing, giving it a refined, tactile quality that distinguished it as a premium product. This design was eventually discontinued after roughly four decades of service.

Standard Band B
Around 2002, Bolívar introduced a modernized band design that remained in production until late 2009. The most noticeable change was the switch from serif to sans-serif script for the Bolívar text, giving the band a cleaner, more contemporary appearance. This iteration also featured a newly crafted embossing die that produced sharper, crisper embossed details than its predecessor.

Standard Band C
The current standard band design began appearing on special release cigars starting in 2006, before becoming the standard for all regular production cigars by late 2009. This design added the word "Cuba" beneath "Habana," providing clearer origin identification. Like its predecessors, this band maintains the embossed tradition that collectors expect from the brand.

Standard Band D
Introduced around 2009 for ongoing production, this specialized band serves Bolívar's slender ring gauge offerings. The design distinguishes itself by omitting the "Habana Cuba" text found on the standard bands, creating a cleaner aesthetic suited to the more delicate vitolas in the lineup. This band also features embossed detailing.

Special Release Bands
Centenary Selection Band
Bolívar has produced special commemorative bands for limited edition and anniversary releases. The Centenary Selection band represents one such special release designation, marking significant milestones in the brand's history with distinctive band artwork that differentiates these premium offerings from standard production.
